The College of Engineering and Information Technology (COEIT) recognizes and embraces the diversity among our graduate and undergraduate student populations. COEIT strives to be a leader to prepare our students to be global citizens in an inclusive space that celebrates our diversity in a shared space in our campus community. Our strategic directions, goals, and performance measures are reflected in our vision and mission and align with our COEIT Strategic Plan.

  • Domestic Ph.D. Open House
    Description: Annual open house for admitted Ph.D. students.
  • Video profiles of diverse student body (CBEE) [YouTube videos]
    Description: Short videos were created and posted on UMBCtube and the CBEE website to promote the research and students in the department.
  • IS spotlights
    Description: Our Information Systems Student Spotlights showcase how the IS Department is a community of innovators and leaders making an impact on our world.
  • CWIT Scholars
    Description: 4-year scholarship awarded to incoming freshmen majoring in computing and engineering who are passionate about CWIT’s mission.
  • Cyber Scholars
    Description: Scholarship awarded to incoming freshmen, continuing students, and transfer students majoring in computing with an interest in cybersecurity, who are passionate about CWIT’s mission.
  • T-SITE Scholars
    Description: Scholarship awarded to incoming transfer students majoring in computing and engineering who are passionate about CWIT’s mission.
  • CWIT/Cyber Affiliates
    Description: The Affiliates Programs exist to facilitate a strong sense of community and connection among students in the College of Engineering and Information Technology (COEIT).
  • Allies in CWIT
    Description: Positively influence the gender climate in the College of Engineering and Information Technology (COEIT) community at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) through educating allies of women in computing and engineering fields.
  • Peer Support for IS Transfers (PeerSIST)
    Description: The program aims to support new IS Transfer students through with a variety of systems like mentorship and peer support.
  • Women in Cybersecurity (WiCyS): myUMBC Group and national website
    Description: From the national organization’s website: “We are a global community of women, allies and advocates dedicated to the recruitment, retention and advancement of women in cybersecurity.”
  • Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE): myUMBC Group and national website
    Description: The goal of UMBC’s chapter of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers is to perpetuate the mission of SHPE National on campus while bolstering more inclusive engineering and scientific communities where all demographics are represented as leaders.
  • Society of Women Engineers (SWE)
    Description: To empower women and support them in their professional and personal lives.
  • National Society of Black Engineers
    Description: The mission of the National Society of Black Engineers is “to increase the number of culturally responsible Black Engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally and positively impact the community.”
  • CETI**
    Description: This program aims to connect new transfer students with their peers, COEIT Faculty, and UMBC resources.
  • Stars**
    Description: The STARS Computing Corps is a national alliance with a mission to broaden participation of underrepresented groups in computing within institutions of higher education.
  • Data Science Scholars
    Description: The students work on thematic areas from related NSF projects as research scholars.
