UMBC’s Department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering (CSEE) offers academic programs leading to ABET-accredited Computer Engineering BS and Computer Science BS degrees; and to graduate degrees for Computer Engineering MS & PhD, Computer Science MS & PhD, Cybersecurity, and Electrical Engineering MS & PhD. The CSEE Department also hosts the master’s degree and post-baccalaureate certificate in Cybersecurity and the Master’s in Professional Studies (M.P.S.) degree and graduate certificate program in Data Science. We are the largest department on campus in terms of undergraduate and graduate students. CSEE research spans areas in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, and Electrical Engineering like Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Quantum computing, Data Science, Cybersecurity of Hardware, Software, and Systems, Photonics, VLSI, Graphics and Visualization, Wireless, Mobile and Sensor systems, Signal Processing and Theory. Our inter and trans disciplinary research leads to collaborations within the department across the different elements of computing and electrical engineering, but also with other departments in the university as diverse as Physics, Biology, Linguistics and Aging studies. Our program is supported by grants from a variety of federal and industrial sources.
