UMBC’s Department of Mechanical Engineering (ME) offers academic programs leading to an ABET-accredited undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering, a non-thesis and thesis path to a master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, and the doctorate degree in Mechanical Engineering. The ME Department also hosts a graduate certificate programs in Computational Thermal Fluid Dynamics. ME research areas include design and manufacturing of clean and renewable energy systems, integration of environmental sensors with autonomous platforms, thermal-fluid systems involving multiphase fluids and deformable objects, solid mechanics and materials science at the micro and nano scale using experimental and computational techniques, and biomechanics of living tissues.
