Governance

The University System of Maryland (USM) states that the principles of shared governance should be a collaborative process among faculty, staff, administration, and students at each institution to promote a collaborative process to support dialogue about important issues to all parties. UMBC Governance shares additional information about the groups that promote these goals. The College of Engineering and Information Technology (COEIT) faculty, staff, and students are dedicated to fulfilling the educational, research and engagement goals of UMBC and supporting the success of our campus community to represent the college and university on various committees and work groups.

 Faculty Senate

The Faculty Senate supports the success of faculty and students through its central role in the shared governance process. It speaks on behalf of the faculty in regard to faculty independence, promotion, tenure, and retention; requirements for awarding undergraduate and graduate degrees; and reviews of academic departments and programs. It also supports and makes recommendations regarding the establishment of policies for research, scholarship, and creative activities that are the cornerstone of a strong university.

Visit the UMBC Leadership website for more information about Governance at UMBC, including additional committee memberships.
