We invite COEIT undergraduate students to submit a proposal for the COEIT Student Summer Project (CSSP) award for faculty-mentored research projects this summer. The CSSP award will be up to $5,000 per student to support a summer research project taking place between June 2, 2026 and August 22, 2026.
This funding is not meant to supplant support that faculty were already planning for students, but to create new opportunities. Applicants are eligible only if they are not already receiving funding from another source for summer research and they are not employed full time elsewhere (e.g., full time internship). This is in the spirit of expanding new experiential opportunities for students. We anticipate funding multiple projects, depending on the scope of the proposals. It is an expectation that each project will have a final deliverable in the form of a report or presentation, to be highlighted at a student research showcase in the fall. Student awardees are also required to attend a series of summer professional development sessions as a condition of the award.

- Applications must include the following (to be submitted by student):
- One-page project description (excluding references) with your research project description, any research question(s), your summer research plan or timeline, and any anticipated outcomes of the project. Research may be foundational or use inspired. Each project must have supervision by a mentor. Please discuss your project and application with your mentor before submitting. Your mentor must approve your application.
- Student CV
- Mentor Approval form (submitted by your faculty mentor/advisor).
- Each faculty may only nominate one undergraduate student. Multiple submissions from a single faculty member will not be reviewed.
- We are anticipating several submissions so we are counting on faculty mentors to support proposal review.

Review Process:
Review will be performed by a group of faculty and/or research staff members. The review process will focus on the merit of the proposed idea, its potential outcomes and added value to the student’s academic career. Final decisions based on these reviews will be made by the Dean’s office.
