About

Carlos A. Romero-Talamás received his B.S. in Engineering Physics from the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey, México in 1995; a Master of Space Studies from the International Space University, France in 1998; a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Applied Physics from the California Institute of Technology, Pasadena, CA in 2005. He worked as a postdoctoral scholar at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory until 2008. He then joined the University of Maryland's Institute for Research in Applied Physics as a Research Scientist. In 2013 Dr. Romero-Talamás joined UMBC as Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, where he is now Associate Professor and Graduate Program Director.

Research Interests

Dusty plasmas, fusion plasmas, plasma-materials interactions, magnetic topology changes through magnetic reconnection, magnetic self-organization, and their application to laboratory and astrophysical plasmas, including the burning plasma regime.
