Why did you choose UMBC?
I chose UMBC because of it being a medium sized school where the classes are smaller and relationships between students and faculty are stronger. Also, I was attracted to the intelligence and focus on learning within the community. I loved that sports are encouraged, but not the main purpose of attending a University.

What do you love about UMBC?
I love the empathy and support I have received from some of my professors at UMBC. No matter what kind of mess I am in, or how much I change my mind, some professors maintain supporting me and helping me find my path. That is something rare to find anywhere. I love that the school is constantly looking towards the future and trying to adapt to what data tells us is what is needed for students to have an advantage in the workplace.

What would you say to a prospective student?

To anyone considering going to UMBC I would say this: If a student knows what they want to do and its available at UMBC, I would tell them to visit the campus and meet the professors before deciding on where to go. I truly believe that UMBC is unlike any other campus in creativity and ingenuity. If they do not know what they want to major in, I would advise them to first figure that out. They can take some excellent general courses (any subject that interests them) and go to the Career Center for some great help in them determining their path.

What has been your favorite class at UMBC?
My favorite class was Chemistry 101. The professor was impressively organized. I knew exactly what I needed to do and when to do it by for every class. It made learning so much easier and less stressful in figuring out the best way to learn something new. I love learning effectively.

What are you researching?
I am currently researching how a Personalized Learning Program affects the self-efficacy of students in high school. I am a firm believer that the current education system is outdated and needs to be remade. I have chosen to contribute to Advancing Personalized Learning as one of fourteen Grand Challenges created by the National Academy of Engineers.

Where did you complete your internship?
I completed my Applied Learning Experience from my 2019 Summer Internship at Textron Systems as a Systems Engineer.

What do you hope to achieve after you complete your degree at UMBC?
After completing my Mechanical Engineering Bachelors, I plan on pursuing a Masters, possibly in Public Policy, or if selected as a Fulbright winner, Global Management of Innovation and Technology in Finland. If I pursue a Masters in Public Policy, I hope to eventually use my skills to influence changes in problematic areas like the education system, social security, or low income housing. If I receive a Fulbright Scholarship, I plan on eventually using my experiences, values, and knowledge to help American businesses learn newer innovative ways to manage projects and employees, and help them integrate practices globally.

Is there anything else you would like to share with us?
I have personally grow exponentially during my time at UMBC. I know growth only comes from within, but the small, essential pieces of support I have received from the UMBC community has greatly contributed to it. From other students, to faculty members, my confidence in myself will forever be greater because of the fraction of time spent at UMBC.
