Why did you chose UMBC?
I chose UMBC because I wanted to attend a smaller school. I felt that UMBC would allow me to connect more with faculty and other students, along with opening up more opportunities such as research and internships.
What do you love about UMBC?
I love how friendly the other students are at UMBC. It’s a small detail, but I’ve noticed that people here always hold doors open for each other, regardless of the weather or how busy they are. The students really are welcoming and always willing to help each other out.
What has been your favorite class at UMBC?
So far, my favorite class might actually be GES110, Physical Geography. I initially took this course simply as a Gen Ed credit, not expecting it to be particularly engaging or useful. Over time, however, I was surprised to find that I really enjoyed the topic. Now, I am interested in geography and earth science, and hope to further explore these fields alongside my main focus (computer science).
Where did you complete your internship/applied learning experience?
I have completed a summer internship at NIST (the National Institute of Standards and Technology) and plan to return next summer as well. During my time there, I worked with the Engineering Laboratory, on a team specializing in additive manufacturing.
What do you hope to achieve after you complete your degree at UMBC?
After graduation, I am currently leaning towards entering a Master’s Degree program.
