“Get involved in something that you love, never be afraid to ask questions, and get to know your professors really well–they know what they’re doing!”
Major: Computer Science
Hometown: Frederick, MD
Campus Activities: T-SITE Scholar and Cyber Affiliate, Cyber Dawgs (Cyber Defense Club) member; running for office next semester.
Why did you choose UMBC?
It was a combination of the research/internship connections and the smaller campus life.
What do you love about UMBC?
The fact that there are a lot of professors that are both very passionate about teaching and industry experts. It gives one a taste of both worlds in the STEM field.
What would you say to a prospective student?
Get involved in something that you love, never be afraid to ask questions, and get to know your professors really well–they know what they’re doing!
What has been your favorite class at UMBC?
A class I’m taking right now: CMSC313 Assembly and C Programming. Dr. John Park is a wonderful professor, and it’s very challenging and fun at the same time.
Where did you complete your internship/applied learning experience?
I haven’t had any internships yet, but I just recently got selected to for the NSA this summer in their Information Assurance internship program.
What do you hope to achieve after you complete your degree at UMBC?
I want to work in the field of cyber security-specifically as either a penetration tester or as a cyber security application developer.
Is there anything else you would like to share with us?
I’d like to give a shout-out to the CWIT (Center for Women in Technology) community. The people and the faculty involved in it have really allowed me to grow as an individual, and the groups within (such as T-SITE and Men in CWIT) are all full of individuals who are just as driven as I am to succeed and enjoy their career.
