“I would say come to UMBC if you are looking for a place to help you become your best self…If you are someone who is willing to work hard and looking to make an impact on the world around you, UMBC is for you.”

Why did you choose UMBC?
I was studying engineering at my previous university and discovered that I wanted to pursue a more computing-centered discipline, Information Systems. Unfortunately, my university’s program was a bit more business centered and UMBC’s program was more technical and offered more opportunities for placement postgraduation, so I decided to make the leap and transfer to UMBC.
What do you love about UMBC?
I love that UMBC is a school that embraces all people. I have met so many different kinds of students in my short time here and it seems that everyone has found their niche and has made UMBC home. I am also grateful for all of the support the University has given, I have seen a huge difference in my motivation to learn just from having professors who actually care about what they are teaching and want to see me succeed.
What would you say to a prospective student?
I would say come to UMBC if you are looking for a place to help you become your best self. The university is a great place to learn new things and expand your worldview, so if you are someone who is willing to work hard and looking to make an impact on the world around you, UMBC is for you.
What has been your favorite class at UMBC?
TRS201 was my transfer seminar class for IS majors, and has been favorite class because it really opened my eyes to all that the university has to offer. I loved learning about all of the on-campus organizations and resources, but also getting to know other students in a small group setting.
Where did you complete your internship?
I am currently interning in Washington, DC at the Peace Corps Headquarters.
What do you hope to achieve after you complete your degree at UMBC?
Post-graduation I am looking for opportunities that will help me merge my technical skills with my love of service. I hope to serve in the Peace Corps and later complete a graduate program in Systems Engineering.
