Prayer and parental guidance; research opportunities.
What do you love about UMBC?
Rare focus on undergraduate success, and ability to do almost anything.
What would you say to a prospective student?
Before your first day on campus, write down what attracted you to UMBC, and your reason for coming because it is going to help you keep a focus when things get overwhelming. Also, before your come to college write down your limits and most cherished values, or else people, even friends, will trample you over quickly.
What has been your favorite class at UMBC?
ENES 101 Introduction to Engineering
What are you researching?
I participated in URCAD (Undergraduate Research and Creative Achievement Day) last year. My research study is a confluence of Bio-mimetics and aerospace engineering. I study flapping wing bird aerodynamics with Dr. Meilin Yu and Ms. Jamie Gurganus (both Mechanical Engineering faculty/staff) as a way to improve design of future commercial aircraft with smart control surfaces.
Where did you complete your internship?
I completed my internship at Maryland Department of Transportation’s branch Maryland Transit Administration. I worked at the office of Performance Management, located in Baltimore, Maryland.
What do you hope to achieve after you complete your degree at UMBC?
I am still grateful for the support I’ve got from Dr. Anne Spence (Undergraduate Program Director) and Dr. Charles Eggleton (Mechanical Engineering Department Chair) in continuing my research here and hiring my faculty mentor at the right time, and also for financial support.
